Maveritchell's The Dark Times II: Rising Son is to Battlefront modding what Beethoven is to writing symphonies. It is the culmination of months and years of work, constant diligence, and lots of experience. This is pretty much the pinnacle of modding achievement, and I've never seen a mod that comes anywhere close to what this one brings to the table.
This mod essentially includes sixteen new maps, a total of 105 distinct missions, lots of new units, new weapons, new heroes and Force powers, and a brand new Galactic Conquest mode that serves as a campaign. While this alone may seem like a lot, it also includes a few brand-new game modes, a full campaign on par with the shipped Battlefront II one, and the entirety of the original Dark Times mod. This is to say, you do not need the original to play this edition.
Due to the fact that this mod is much too big to cover every facet of it in a single review, I will do my best to break it down into categories and review each of those with a paragraph or two.
MAPS
The Dark Times II includes sixteen new maps. These include Raxus Prime, Taris, Dantooine, Nar Shaddaa, and a bunch more. The maps are all very good- they have all the hallmarks of a well-polished map, like planning, even terrain, and it is obvious that large amounts of work were put into them. They are all well done, and the multitude of different ones assures that you will have no shortage of fun maps to play if you are just looking to play Conquest. I noticed nothing bad about any of the maps.
CAMPAIGN
The Dark Times II features a campaign mode of sorts- in actuality, it is just Galactic Conquest with objective maps. This is not to say that it isn't fun- on the contrary, it is very fun. The storyline focuses on a unit of Rebel forces led by Luke Skywalker in their fight against the Empire. There are ten primary missions with a few side missions that you can branch out on should you elect to do so. The campaign is fairly linear, but the side missions offer a bit of a break from the normal progression. The campaign maps themselves are rather fun, though somewhat challenging. While the missions themselves encompass the normal objectives- go here, capture this, bring this here, kill this unit, et cetera- they aren't boring and in fact are something that you look forward to playing.
NEW GAME MODES
The original Dark Times had a new mode called Wave. This mode makes an appearance here as well, and it is essentially a one vs. all battle. You are a hero unit and must defend against waves of common enemies and some hero units in order to win the battle. There are both space and land editions. In addition, there is a new mode called V.I.P. In this mode, you are placed on a side to fight against enemies. Each side has a hero unit, or VIP, to kill in order to recieve points. You must keep your VIP alive in order to have a better chance against the opposition. The final new mode is called Control Mode, where there are several secondary control points to capture in order to recieve bonuses upon your team. You don't have to capture them to control the entire map, but you should do so in order to recieve the benefits that they offer. All of these modes are quite fun to play and offer a lot of variety in your gameplay. I personally enjoyed Wave mode the best, as it's essentially just an opportunity to kill a lot of AI without any teamkilling possible.
NEW LIGHTSABER COMBAT SYSTEM
Gone is the old saber system of the past. In is the new. In the Dark Times, you don't have the standard three-move combo and block move. Now, you have two types of attacks: light or heavy. Light attacks are done by tapping the block key, and serve both as a means of causing damage and blocking incoming attacks. However, they drain energy, so you have to use them sparingly. Heavy attacks are done by clicking as normal and cause damage- more than the light attacks, but they lose the ability to block incoming attacks. Heavy attacks can also do a Force Finisher, which is essentially a powerful attack done by right-clicking after the third attack with a full energy bar. Each type of attack can be chained together infinitely. This type of combo system is nice, but it does have some minor drawbacks. I prefer it to the standard combo system though.
OVERALL ASSESSMENT
As I stated in my introductory paragraph, this mod is essentially the pinnacle of modding achievement. The amount of content it adds to a game that didn't have enough of it to begin with is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Much like the Conversion Pack, this mod is one of those that should be installed on every single computer running Battlefront 2. It's really that good. Don't believe me? Well, I strongly suggest you download and play it for yourself. I doubt you'll be able to stop.
Thanks for downloading Dark Times II: Rising Son. In this download you should see four files. This readme.txt file, a folder containing all the documentation for the mod, an installer for the v1.3 patch (you can ignore this if you want) and an installer file called "RisingSon.exe."
To install your copy of Rising Son, you will want to extract the installer and run it. If your Star Wars Battlefront II folder is located in the standard install location (...Program FilesLucasArtsStar Wars Battlefront II) then the installer will automatically point to that directory and you may use the automatic install. If your Star Wars Battlefront II folder is located in some other location, you will want to browse to that folder ("Star Wars Battlefront II") and point the installer to that directory. Then you may proceed with the automatic installation.
Please be aware that the installer may take a little bit of time before it starts up. If you doubleclick the installer and it doesn't appear to be doing anything, please don't repetitively click the installer - it is likely working already and clicking it more than once will just duplicate the process and bog down your machine.
If you have the original "Dark Times" mod, you may delete that copy before installing if you want - this does not require the older version, and if you do not delete it, this will simply overwrite the older version. Everything from the older version is included in this download.
If you would like to do a manual install, more detailed instructions can be found in the documentation folder.
As mentioned above, there is an installer for the unofficial v1.3 patch included in the download. While installing the mod will also install the 1.3 patch, if you wish to change the basic settings for the 1.3 patch, you may use this installer to re-install the patch with new settings.
The 1.3 patch that is automatically installed with the mod has these settings:
-1.2 patch HUD ON
-Disabled awards' graphical effects
You can change these by simply using the 1.3 patch installer to reinstall that patch. If you are okay with these settings, you may simply ignore that file.
Any questions not answered in this readme file or in the documentation, please feel free to address to me at:
Finally a mod that is better than the game bought from the store, think about it maver, you could get paid for this... meanwhile your making all of us happy with an awesome mod. excellent work.

I'm really enjoying this mod... adds a whole new aspect to the game. Gameplay, and the new modes are amazing
Okay, Now it is extracted after 3 re-downloads, but when i try to install, it stops at random points and says " (file name) could not renamed because it is in use" It is a different file each time, and pressing try again just crashes the installer.

There's something fishy going on in filefront. Every time I download something awsome, something else hitches a ride with it... something... that has nothing to do with us.
Anyways, Mav, your work and the work of all those great modders out there make SWBF II the best game in the world!!! Unfortunately, something went wrong yesterday on my computer. I'm going to try again. If anything bad happens, rest ashured, I'm not sewing anyone. Whatever I download and install on my computer is under MY responsibility.
Keep up the good work!!!

Is there any reason why you didn't release this at the same time as on Gametoast? Not that I mind, but I was just wondering.
Great mod, it might actually convince me to finally reinstall Battlefront after my system crash. Sorry, scratch that, it WILL convince to to reinstall it. Definitely a runner for ModDB's Mod of the Year award.

btw... I wanted to watch this video, but I can't watch it - "This video contains content from Sony Music Entertainment. It's no longer available in your country."
Hate this... not the first time I see those errors.
Could you make the same video with other music? Then all guys who have the bad luck to live in Germany could watch it, too. Would be great!

Can someone email me the stock lvl_pc folder? Every time I uninstall the game everything stays the same. I still have the visual changes, I still have freecam and the fake console of the 1.3 patch. And when I try to unistall it, I look at the batch file, it says access is denied. My email is email removed -Staff.

You probably have a nonstandard set of stock .lvl files. The mod occasionally draws from the stock side .lvls, and that is one point at which it does. Make sure you are either using the stock .lvls or the .lvls from the 1.2 patch.

I took the lvls from the stock game on my desktop (just in case) and I replace the 1.2's lvls with the stock's, but nothing happens. Plus, any side mod I download, the sides are the same... I'm frustrated (not that I don't like the 1.2's sides). Btw, this mod is great and will stay in my game for a long time.
On the campaign I am stuck on Fest when the objective that says that you need to hack into an AT-PT comes up. I just kept on trying crazy things until time ran out! Can someone help me?

Anytime i interact with the .exe file (left-click, right-click, winrar and so on) my processor starts to run at max with no resources left for anything. Explorer and/or winrar freezes, and so does active programs if i click on them. I think this is because of the big .exe file, is there any way to get a .rar file for manual installation? If not, do anybody know the problem, and a way to fix it? I'm running a 32-bit version of Windows 7. Any help is appreciated.

60) It is not freezing, but it will use a lot of system resources to extract the archive. As it mentions in the readme, please do not click on the installer several times and please do give it time to start the install. This may take a few minutes. There is no available version other than the .exe installer, which is really just a compressed archive anyway.
Thank you for the reply, but the program never opens. However, I've noticed a RisingSon.exe process in the background ONCE, and a window in the taskbar that doesn't want to show itself. However, this only happened once, and the process made a new process with a similar name after a while. Also, the window disappeared. I'm going to try again and give it an hour to work.
Nope, after an hour of running in the background, RisingSon.exe does not do anything. Does it have to be run as admin to reply? That would be hard, as right clicking on it freezes explorer.

I've never tested the file on a computer with which I don't have administrative access, but its default install location is in "Program Files," which would require admin access to install to. I don't know if it would check for that access before or after the program starts. I would suggest running it on a computer on which you have admin access, and if that computer is not the one you normally play SWBF2 on, simply copy the files to a flash drive/data storage and add it to your personal computer.
I don't have file "custom_gc_11.lvl"
Where can I get it?

It was included with your download. Read the documentation included with the download - you have either moved the file yourself or you have not completely installed the mod.
Thanks. I am read the documentation.
I clicked on "SWBF2-v1.3patch r129.exe", then "RisingSon.exe", but I do not have a file "custom_gc_11.lvl"
What should I do?
I tried to open the file on a vista computer, but the computer froze. So i shut it down, but now it does not want to start up again. I don't know if it is the file's fault, but I really can't get this file to work. Can anyone extract the files, make them a .zip or .rar file, and upload it so I can finally try this?

What file was it that you tried to open that caused your "crash?" If it is the installer .exe, did you read the readme? As mentioned there, it is a memory-intensive process and may take a few minutes to run, during which you shouldn't try to open the program again and in which you should just let the program do its thing.
Yes, it was RisingSon.exe. I pressed it once and let the computer run, but it froze, an i had to shut it off.

What does "froze" mean to you, then? If you let it run and it didn't start, then you didn't let it run long enough. If it's taking a long time on your Vista computer, then try to extract the files in another environment (XP, et al).
With froze, I mean that every single process on the computer stopped responding, and there was nothing I could do to change that. Explorer froze, chrome froze, and everything else. So i had to hold down the power off button. It doesn't want to start back up now, so I'm formatting the whole computer (It needed it anyways). I don't think it was your fault that it didn't want to start up (probably a virus or hardware error), but the file was too much to handle for the computer.

If you're running a lot of things, you may see your processes hang for a bit while the installer loads up. Whenever you make another attempt to reinstall, if you so choose, make sure not to run a whole lot at once and likewise make sure to not be concerned if you do see a "hang" in your running programs.
Wow... uh wow... honestly that's the only thing I can say: Brilliant job Mav, I've been following progress and am completely thrown of my feet of the quality and also the brisk release. This has a smaller workforce and you've made a mod (I take it as a game) that's better than a lot of other PC games. Kudos to you mate.

I Like all of the maps ( and skins ) a lot except for two things 1.The class rebel infiltrator need a sidearm of some kind for balance during online ( and offline gameplay ). 2. for some reason the darktrooper phase 2 ( melee) seems to be able to differentiate its allies from me when I am disguised as a bothan. Other than those two things however, I was very impressd with the over all use of props and custom weapons in your maps and sides and I loved the textures and design of your Correlia Coronet Transport map. Very creative and worth the download. You never fail to imprewss or deliver Mav. Nice job. 10/10

His main weapon is a sidearm, and it's incredibly powerful - he doesn't get another sidearm, since he has grenades, and detpacks, and health&ammo. Any opposing team member will be able to tell if you are disguised if you use the disguise kit too close to them or if you get too close to them.
Okay I installed it, but everytime I start a map (normal map, no mod map) with the new "Dark Times II" era the game crashes and say "Couldn't open mission lvl, etc."
Anyone can help me?

Is this mod working for anybody?
I want to play this f****** mod!

Calm down. It works for anyone, and like I said, you need to read through the included documentation.
It would tell you that you don't need to delete anything, you just need to move maps or mods out of your addon folder to somewhere else. If you have a lot of large mods installed, it may not matter how many maps you move, because the mission limit, which is what you're probably running in to, is a limit on missions loaded in to the game. If you have more than one other large mod installed, I would suggest moving one of them to a different location outside your addon folder.
Is there a chance to play this mod or is there coming version 1.1, which I can play?

You can play this - I ignored your last comment, because at this point if you still have problems, you are simply ignoring what I've written - both here and in the extensive documentation provided with the mod.

Wow. (And I don't mean World of Warcraft)
Excellent job Mav. I liked your original "Dark Times" mod and this is 10x better. I love the new campaign, but unfortunately, that is where my problem lies. I have played as far as Dantooine, including the Kashyyyk-Korriban sub-plot. The problem is this: When I try to play Dantooine, the game crashes and sends me back to my desktop. The same happens for Instant Action as well. It will show the loading screen, and it loads all the way, but when the level tries to start, *BOOM*
Like I said, I already had the original "Dark Times" mod installed, and I did not remove it. I only ran the DT:RS installer. My computer is a Windows Vista.
Any help here would be hot! Thanks!
I can't figure out how to access the campaign part. Is there something i missed?

98) If your PC has problems rendering water on some stock levels, you may have problems rendering water on some of these addon levels.
99) Please make sure to read the documentation included with the mod. The campaign is accessed through the "Galactic Conquest" menu.

Yeah, I bet that's the problem. I had to download a fix for the Naboo water so I could play that map. So how would I go about fixing this problem? Something similar maybe? I'd really really like to be able to continue the campaign! Thanks!

Sorry for the double post!
I noticed while I was playing Instant Action just now, that when I try to play the other three maps with water the game crashes too. Sigh. I assume there *is* a way to fix this?. I sure hope so! Thank for your time!

I may end up making a no-water or water adjustment patch to see if the problem can be resolved, but I'm not going to make any promises. The way anyone can "fix" this is, of course, to make sure that the PC you have can run all aspects of the stock game, but I understand that this is not necessarily within the means of every person.

Well, my computer is not one of the best models out there, a fact of which I am well aware. (My parents bought it for me, so I think they just got the cheapest one available.) Yeah yeah, don't look a gift horse... But this isn't the place to unload all my family issues. Please feel free to ignore this post!
Thanks for your time anyhow Mav.

P.S. Just let me add that a patch would make certain anonymous parties very happy.

If I run Star Wars Battlefront 2 (the folder after the install is in the folder: Addon) nothing changes at Battlefront 2 (So there is nothing else than usual -.-)
I've read the post about the "water problem" ... It's the first time I find this problem... Anyone knows how to fix it ?
Perhaps it's just that and the entire game get's to work perfectly... Naboo is crashing on me too but I never imagined why... where can I get this patch to let me play in water maps ?

I know there is a version of the stock Naboo: Theed level posted with the water removed. As far as this mod goes, there is no current fix for this, as this was designed to work with systems that don't have issues with the regular game.
It's obviously some kind of video issue, and you could play around with your video settings to see if you can force a fix, but since I have no experience with this PC issue some users seem to have, I can't tell you what will actually take care of it.
I've downloaded the Naboo addon... It fixed it... I think the only thing it does is removing the water... You can still see the water but it has no effect...
Some other levels I have got the same problem... I have no ideia how to find a major fixer to this... I've tried working on the water detail in-game but nothing done...
The only thing I could ask you is too see if you could make a really simple patch removing the water... But then again, I would need to ask this to other modders out there and it might be to much work for everybody...
(i'm not sure how these things are done, so I have no ideia how much time it would take you to do this :s )
#113 - Can't reach installation - 09-12-2010 at 13:24
So I downloaded the game, and after a while, I successfully extracted it. However, Windows Explorer cannot seem to sustain it. It frequently crashes, and always stops responding when I try to install the game. When I did reach the .exe file, and tried to run it, I followed instructions and waited for at least three minutes, and nothing happened. I run on Windows Vista, and the computer on which I am trying to install it is a laptop. If you could help, it would be much appreciated. I do hope I am not causing you to repeat yourself, but I couldn't find any information that helped me with this problem.

I haven't physically seen your problem before, so I'd only be guessing. Make sure you're not running a whole lot of other things at once when you run the extractor .exe. If you continue to have problems, you may simply want to extract the files on another computer and then move them to the computer on which you are using them.

whew. just beat campaign mode.(yes i conquered EVERY planet not just the main path.)
So I've been trying almost everything to fix every single problem in my game... Untill now the best thing I've done was downloading all the patches (including 1.3) and then Dark Times 2, Ultimate Battlefront: The Clone Wars and finally the AI Hero support mod...
Everything workis perfectly and the AI Heroes are perfect! They work on every single map (original or custom!) ... This doesn't happen in other mods like Convo Pack (yet I'm not sure due to the "too many missions" error) and Battlefront Extreme...
Yet there is still the WATER ERROR! ... Every single level that has a high amount of water in it does not work (including Naboo wich I fixed by removing all the water, ain't a big change and makes it work so...) and I have no idea why, can't be the computer graphical system... One last thing, there is one level with water and it works... how does this happens, I have no idea... (gonna go check out the map again and then I'll post the name of that map here...)

REQUESTING THAT USERS READ INSTRUCTIONS
This is like a carousel, people. I keep answering the same questions over and over and over. No one bothers reading the included documentation. No one bothers reading the previously posted comments. It's a huge waste of time for me to answer these things that I spent a lot of time writing up clear instructions for already.
The too many missions happens because the game can't take more then 500 missions... I advise you to choose the smallest mods or just a few map packs and play only those... If you want others, you need to switch them to play...
Mav, I've read the documentation and untill now I have no solution to the water problem... I've tried almost everything... I have no ideia what more can be done to fix it...

The "read the documentation" wasn't addressed at you; as mentioned above, there is only one end-user fix that can be done to fix the water problem, and that is to make sure that your computer is capable of running the stock game without issues.
Well the computer is not a great computer but it does run games with high computer graphics... Star Wars Battlefron 2 allways worked fine here and it doesn't make any sense to have the water problem since the computer can take soo many graphics well and contains what any other computer needs to run this without problems...
That's why I'm concerned...

All GC mods are controlled through files named "custom_gc_X.lvl" where "X" is a number 1-19. This is mentioned in the Rising Son Campaign document, and you'll see a location for it listed there (Star Wars Battlefront IIGameDataDATA_LVL_PC). You need to move that GC into a stored folder and replace it with the GC for KotOR GC.

You just need to be more aware of who's around you, then. I've never seen that pop up as an issue, and you don't fail the mission unless a large percentage of the Mon Calamari die.
Having a problem with the 2nd campaign mission. After the objective comes up that tells you that droids are reactivating, I see no droids. Later, the magnaguards don't spawn and I can't continue the level. Any fix for this?

Please make sure to read all the documentation included with the mod. If you do not have all the stock .lvl files installed, you may have a problem - if you installed a side mod that changes the stock sides, then you may have a problem with this level.
this is so many types eye-candy!!! i think i cried! fantastic job! downloading now! u now i just need a level with the naboo n-1 starfighter and Lando in cloud city hehe millenium falcon rules! does the alternate guns on her work in this mod?? thanks for this!
help! i just started playing this i cant exit from galactic conquest to the menu, and free cam removes my sights and radar hud, eh help? also shouldnt my regular space battles include the new modes? or are they level specific?

Galactic conquest doesn't exit directly to the main menu, it exits to the Galactic Conquest interface, and from there you can exit to the main menu. That's not a bug, that's how any Galactic Conquest works. Free camera is supposed to remove anything from the screen, otherwise it would be a rather messy-looking camera.
The Dark Times space content is spread over the six Dark Times space maps (Space Anoat, Space Corellia, Space Dantooine, Space Mon Calamari, Space Nar Shaddaa, and Space Raxus Prime). Please read the included documentation for further elaboration.
after i reset the free camera to first person the hud doesnot come back, i cant exit to the galactic conquest main interface the battle loads back up instead, still love this mod! great work
well i mean, after getting more conversions with more maps i get the good old, too many missions message. so i thought after i have finishied your conversion i want to remove it and only ad my favorite maps one by one and if i dont get the too many missions message to play those! i extracted your conversion to a separate folder on my desk top after install, so i hope i can take maps from it at a later date and use those ps:i love your endor space map! its just like the final battle! happy hollidays to you!
sorry for yet another double post! just relly wish too say thank you for being so helpful! im am really gratfull! :-) thanks!

Maver, you've exceeded yourself, this mod is INSANE, along with all the weapons and units you added, I am quite a fan of mods an have been tracking your talent for quite some time, I decided to make an account today, just to ask you some questions and overall improve my experience.
I have some problems and doubts.
1. In the campaign galactic conquest mode, all the new units appear with NULL name and NULL description, it literally says that, is there a fix for this? Also, the planets that aren't stock, once I attack are named common.map.(planet) again, is there a fix to this?
2. I started Mygeeto on Dark times mode, again the null problem, unit names as codes and no name for the hero, is this normal or an abnormality? Is there a fix to it?
3. Kamino, my favorite map has been changed, I have the Extreme mod, and it seems to work along dark times, yet there is something upsetting, if I start Kamino (Only kamino) on extreme era, instead of extreme units I get diferent, new ARC units, I miss my republic commandos, is this part of your mod? Or something I didn't see the first time?
By the way, the null problem's been getting on my nerves lately, it has not let me play custom campaigns nor know map names, as most are displayed as null, tell me if I can fix it please, and how.
Once again thank you for a great mod mate.

If you are seeing missing localizations, you need to make sure that you have the proper Lucasarts 1.1 patch installed for the game. Without the correct 1.1 game patch installed, you may be missing localizations on several different mods.
This mod adds the "Dark Times" era. Anything else is not part of this mod.

Please help!!
And btw the things I have seen so far have been great xD
hey this is a sweet mod i was curious to know if you ever though about making a weapons expansion for the gcw using that storm commando model and imperial techhnician?
What I liked: Dude marksman, maps were very good, disguise kit instead of stealth, AI heros.
What *****ed me off: the wookie. No zoom with the bowcaster? the incredibly weak melee on the bothan spy.

Yes, it does. There's nothing in the original Dark Times that this does not have.
That being said, the Fake Console is not part of Dark Times nor is it part of Dark Times II - it's part of the packed-in Unofficial 1.3 patch, which can be downloaded separately. It is a requirement for a number of large mods (any era mod, for example) and is often packed in with them.
So if you're downloading this, be sure you're downloading this for the fact that it adds more new content than any other mod (over 15 brand-new maps, an entire game-length campaign, custom SP/MP scripted missions, new game modes, etc.) and not because you simply want the mod packed in with it.

Please tell me what folder I need to uninstall. (Well I´d prefer to uninstall KotR what comes with the conversion pack but I can´t without uninstalling the convopack >.<
Dude, this mod is FREAIN 2GBs!!! It's not worth it! Just get the Battlefront Conversion and Battlefront Extreme.

The Conversion Pack is twice as big, and Battlefront Extreme is just a sides mod - it doesn't add anything particularly new. This has over 15 new maps, its own campaign, single-player wave missions, two other new game modes, space heroes, random features, a bunch of new vehicles, units, heroes, etc. - it has more specifically new content than any other mod.
As someone who also published the Conversion Pack, I can tell you that this one is much more interesting as a standalone mod than it is.
Hey Mav, I know that some people don't like Battlefront Extreme but it is one of my favorite mods. Does this version of Dark Times play nice with BFX? Thanks!

It's fully compatible with the latest version of BFX.
I'm pretty new here to filefront, and I am going to dowload this mod (i have never played the original Dark Times mod) and am quite exited. However, I never download anything without reading all of the comments (cuz im weird like that) and laughed at soem tings people posted. I can say that I sufficiently understand how Mav felt when answering THE SAME QUESTION OVER AND OVER AGAIN. It really got a laugh out of me how no one ever reads the readme or the included documentation. Also, whoever said that this mod was not worth it, its too big and just get the conversion pack and BFX, is soooo wrong. The conversion pack is fun, BUT IT IS BIGGER THAN THIS, and is less techinically amazing than this mod. This also adds more to the game than the conversion pack (althought the conversion pack is fun). As for BFX....phenomenal amount of space, very little added to the game. In no way is it worth it, but thats just my opinion obviously its on the top download list so a lot of people like it (although i have no idea why)...but I'm not here to trash someone else's mod. BFX is fun, but too much space to justify what it adds to the game, in my opinion. And someone randomly posted something about how to add a frog to your post, and it had nothing at all to do with this mod, but since no one seemed to listen to him (or her) and add a frog, I have decided to do so.

What I've been saying is actually to "check the documentation." I include a documentation archive for the mod to help new users get familiar. The specific piece of documentation is the "Help!.rtf" document, and it says this:
Quote:I load up the game and I see a warning that says something about too many missions! What does this mean?
This is a warning that you will get if you have too many addon mods or maps installed at once. The game itself is limited to 500 addon missions. A "mission" is defined as one mode from one map - for example, Dantooine: Farmland conquest is one mission, and Dantooine: Farmland control is another mission.
Large mods will use significantly more missions than single addon maps, obviously. Rising Son uses exactly 105 missions. You can obviously have plenty of other mods or maps installed while Rising Son is installed, limited only by the size of the individual mods or maps installed.
But none of that necessarily helps you out if you see the above warning, right? What can you do if you see a "too many missions" warning? If you see this warning, all it means is that you are trying to use too many missions at that particular time. The easy solution to this is to remove some of your mod folders from your addon folder - just move them somewhere else besides your "...Star Wars Battlefront IIGameDataaddon" folder, you do not have to delete them. As long as you only try to load under 500 missions at once, you can use however many mods or maps you want - just switch them out before you load up the game.

#197 - A bit of help to those who can't find the GameData/addon folder - 07-05-2011 at 09:36
If you can't find the GameData/addon folder, then you're not looking in the right place. IT IS THERE. Where to look depends on where you got the game from.
If you bought a retail copy of the game (from a store, you installed from a disc):
1. Click on the "My Computer" Icon. EVERY PC HAS THIS.
2. You should see "Local Disc: C" Double click it to open. (this is your hard drive, people! yes, your computer does have it!)
3. If you have Windows XP or an earlier version of Windows, you should see about four folders (every computer is different, depending on what you downloaded, yada yada yada)One of those folders should be "Program Files" double click it to open. (if you did this skip the next step)
4. If you have Windows Vista or 7, you should see about 5 folders, one says "Program Files" DO NOT CLICK THIS. You should see another folder called "Program Files (x86)" double click this one to open.
5. This step is the same no matter your operating system, so listen up! Now that you've opened your "Program Files" folder (or "Program Files (x86)" you should see a lot of folders. scroll down until you see a folder called "LucasArts". Double click this to open.
6. Find your "Star Wars Battlefront 2" folder. -it may also be "star wars battlefront ii- and double click it to open.
7. So youre in your "Star Wars Battlefront 2" folder. You should see a folder called "GameData" -it may also be "Gamedata" - Double click this to open it.
8. In your "GameData" folder you should see a folder called "addon" -this may also be "AddOn" or "Addon" - if you do not, create a folder called "addon"
9. CONGRATS, YOU FOUND THE GAMEDATA/ADDON FOLDER!
Now, if you bought the game off of STEAM (you didnt think I really left you guys out, did I? btw, I bought the game off steam ) here is what you do:
1. Click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop. EVERY PC HAS THIS.
2. You should see "Local Disc : C" click on it (this is you hard drive, and yes, your computer does have this"
3. WINDOWS XP OR EARLIER USERS- now that you're in your "Local Disc : C" you should see about 4 folders. One of these says "Program Files" (if you dont see it you did something wrong) double click on it to open. (if you did this skip the next step)
4. WINDOWS VISTA OR 7 USERS- now that you're in your "Local Disc : C" you should see about 5 folders. One of these says "Program Files" DO NOT CLICK ON THIS. you should see another folder called "Program Files (x86)" this is the folder you want to open. Double click on it to open.
5. This step is the same no matter your operating system, so READ THIS! NO SKIMMING ALLOWED! Now that you've opened your "Program Files" folder -or your "Program Files (x86)" folder- you should see quite a bit of folders. find the one called "Steam" -most computers have the program files in alphabetical order, so it should be way down there- Double click on "Steam" to open it.
6. You should see some folders, one of which is called "steamapps" -if you dont see it, SCROLL DOWN- double click on it to open.
7. There should be a folder called "common" double click on this to open it.
8. In your "common" folder, you should see a folder called "star wars battlefront ii" double click on it to open it.
9. You should see a folder called "GameData" -it could also be "Gamedata" - open it.
10. In your "GameData" folder, you should see a folder called "Addon" -it may be "AddOn" or "addon" - (if you dont see it, create a folder called "addon" )
CONGRATS STEAM USER YOU FOUND THE GAMEDATA / ADDON FOLDER!
P.S. Steam users, if you opened "common" and couldnt find "star wars battlefront ii" your folder is in a different location, which (unless you did something really funky with your computer ) should be a folder "steam username" and no, the folder is not called steam username it is your steam username. ie if your username was bob the folder would be "bob" KEEP IN MIND THIS IS YOUR STEAM USERNAME, NOT YOUR PROFILE, SO IF THEY ARE DIFFERENT, LOOK FOR THE FOLDER THAT IS YOUR STEAM USERNAME!
DO NOT GO LOOKING FOR THE FOLDERS THE MOD INSTALLED, IF YOU ARE NOT ABSOLUTLEY SURE, OR EVEN IF YOU ARE, AND YOU DELETE THEM , YOU CAN MAKE YOUR GAME 100% UNPLAYABLE. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UNINSTALL THIS ON YOUR OWN. now, if Maveritchell made an uninstaller, that would be a different story.
#199 - UGH, really sorry for the triple post - 07-05-2011 at 09:44
What was meant by "Do not go looking for files to delete to uninstall this" was that there are not any special ways to uninstall. Just move BDT out of your addon folder, but DONT GO LOOKING TO DELETE ANY LVL FILES AND SUCH. Just for clarification.

In general, I liked the new modes of game, maps, models, but also I find some inconsistences:
I investigate many about Hoth battles, and always the troops use the same cloth (like the BF1 conversion pack for example). In my opinion, they would be the same, and another request is to use a new model for Han Solo, using a coat (like the used in the Rescue of Luke, the Empire Strikes Back movie) because in all the sources, he always use a coat.

I agree with Number 205. We should have Han in a coat and perhaps Luke with a Blue Saber and the gear he wore on Dagobah and Bespin.

Han does wear his ESB gear in this mod. Luke has three different costumes in the campaign. The troopers on Hoth (or Fest) during the campaign all wear their snow gear. Everything you're talking about is there, if you just look.

211: You can use a fusion cutter (just like in the normal game) or you can use Ion Grenades or the Ion Mortar (the mortar only if you have the technician unit purchased).
214: You have the 1.3 patch installed incorrectly. You can either install the latest version of the 1.3 patch or you can simply re-install this mod, as it comes packed with the 1.3 patch.
Maveritchell (Staff) From: Joined: July 14th, 2007 Posts: 1092
Then the problem is that you're simply installing it incorrectly. Go ahead and browse for the 1.3 patch on this site and install that. Be aware where the new modes show up - most of the new modes show up only on the yellow (Rising Son) maps. The campaign shows up in the Galactic Conquest tab.

i have problems with 1.3 patch. 1. i cant make <game dir> folder because my computer dont let me use < or > in folder name. 2. i dont understand what folders i must put and where because this dosent make any sense (Extract the files in 'SWBF2 v1.3patch.exe' to the folder "<game dir>addonAAA-v1.3patch" (you will need to manually create that folder). "<game dir>" represents the folder where you installed SWBF2.) some parts of this i understand i understand please help
Maveritchell (Staff) From: Joined: July 14th, 2007 Posts: 1092
The problem is that you don't understand the directions. "<gamedir>" is not a location, it's a placeholder for whatever directory your game is installed in. You need to read through the directions carefully and make sure you follow them.
is it possible to turn off heros in instant action? when i select the option to disable them, i prevents me from using heros but npcs still use them > is there a fix for that?

AI heroes are always on. The "Disable Heroes" option is strictly to prevent human players from having access to them.
wow this is amazing mav has done a amazing mod the new lightsaber system is miles better than the old one and the new force attacks are great plus, you get the 1.3 patch installed also (witch is great)

I have the same problem as #212 - before installing this mod I added some new maps but after installing Dark Times 2 all the downloaded maps don't show up in instant action! There are only the maps from the Conversion pack and Dark Times, no other map will appear in Instant action (to explain it more simply - no maps in orange colour, only white and yellow)....

You may have too many maps and/or mods installed at once. Try moving the Conversion Pack's "BF1" folder outside of the "addon" folder.

Thanks, it worked but the problem is that I really don't have a lot of mods and maps. Before, when I installed BF2 and added this mod with the other mods and a lot of maps I didn't have such a problem...

It's not necessarily the number of mods/maps installed; it is the number of missions each mod/map installs with it. Most mod maps include about 2-3 missions apiece. The Conversion Pack has upwards of 300, and this mod has about 120(-ish?). If you have two or three large mods installed, there is a chance you will be close to the hard limit that the game has, which is 500.

It can't be done - that's why it's a hard limit and not a soft limit.
Could you remove the blue lines from the weapon bar and the heatlh bar, so they could look normal? And sorry my English...

Hey man, thanks so much for this mod. Its the first mod I've ever tried for Battlefront, and I have to say its pimpin'.I think that Dantooine map is paticularly outstanding, and I appreciate you fixing Boba Fetts rifle.
But anyway, after a long and annoying istallation, I finally installed it. My problem is that when in instant action, the map names are garbled nonsense, as well as the description. They run all right, but the names are bold yellow and seem to be random file names. This makes it very annoying to pick maps and gametypes as i cannot tell what I am picking. Can you tell me how to fix this? I would be most appreciative.

If you're not playing the game with the official 1.1 patch (the one correct for your region), then you may run into errors with localization with this and other mods. If you need to install the 1.1 patch, then you'll need to reinstall the (unofficial) 1.3 patch that came with this (following the install of the 1.1 patch).
And if none of that fixes your localization or it seems like too daunting an issue, you can intuit most of the map names from the first three letters - what you're seeing are localization keys without any strings attached to them. Most of them match up closely to the map names (i.e. DFL = Dantooine: Farmland), with the exception of a couple.

Mav, this is a truly awesome mod, you have clearly put a lot of time and effort into this, and it is something that has really paid off. i am starting to create a new mod with maps, custom sides, you know, the stuff you get in this kind of mod. I have a few questions about making mods similar to this (but not necessarily as big)
Firstly, how do you create the custom era for the maps?
Secondly, how do you get the custom sides into the stock maps (plus custom era)?
Thirdly, how do you create a campaign for the mod (because yours was truly brilliant) with objectives and all?
Overall, this is the best mod there is, literally, and i give you a 11/10 and a

237) I would suggest you take a look at Gametoast.com - in the modding forum there, you can find tutorials for the things you're interested in doing.
238) As a general rule I don't release assets from my large mods. I'm usually pretty sloppy with my assets and as such they don't work very well outside of the context they're designed for.
239) You can see any author's mods by simply clicking on their name as it's listed in the "Developer" field up top.

You can't delete component missions of a larger mod. What you do have the option to do - without deleting any of the mods you enjoy - is to simply remove mods from your addon folder when you are not using them.
To give an example, the Conversion Pack uses the folder "BF1" as its addon folder. If you take that folder and move it to your desktop (which is out of your addon directory), then the game will no longer load that when it loads up and you won't see a "too many missions" error. When you're ready to play that again, move some other map/mod(s) out of your addon folder and move that folder ("BF1" back in.

I really appreciate all the work you put into this, no offense, but I'm really not a fan of the custom mods and modes. The maps are fantastic though. Is there any way I can get just the maps without the Dark Times mods?
- The BF2 conversion Pack, now at 2.2, has got a SERIOUS problemo hello: install it all correctly (in a game folder where you played longtime, for like years, of course, no one will like to re-install the whole friggin thing.
