Gun Game Mode (1.0) - File Description

Description:
Quick Facts:
-Game mode addon
-Tantive IV only

Art: N/A
Tech: 4/5
Creativity: 4/5
Fun: 4/5

Thoughts:
This is a neat add-on! It's not a mode I'm familiar with (although given the author's description, there are probably plenty who are), but it's scripted well and fits well enough into SWBF2. My only quibble is that the changes in weapons aren't really substantial - I appreciate that the author wanted this to use stock weapons for sake of ease, but it would be a lot more fun with meaningful changes in weapons, I think. Other things? I'd like to see this on more than just Tantive IV, and making each weapon period last longer than 1 kill would be nice.

-Mav

Gun Game Mode v1.0

This mod attempts to recreate the Gun Game Mode in Call of Duty and Counter-Strike. Everyone begins with a pistol, and getting a kill advances you to the next weapon. In total there are 60 weapons. Also, the game is free-for-all, no teams. THIS IS A
SINGLEPLAYER MOD and will not work in multiplayer, so I've disabled the multiplayer option. Later I would to make a version of this for multiplayer, but significant changes are required. All the weapons and models are stock; this is purely a scripting mod. For now, it is set only on Tantive IV, but I can fairly easily add other maps. There are no command posts to choose from, you randomly spawn pretty much anywhere on the map. Everyone has infinite ammo, and there is no way to get health back, short of respawning (which will penalize you back a level). Also, the AI has been boosted considerably in difficulty, though the game is still very playable on Elite. For now all the bots are the same rebel model, but you (the human) get to choose between 10 different Imperial models, and all your progress is saved if you switch midgame. Note that since there are no command posts, you have to die and respawn to switch. Your score will appear as usual, and the "enemy's" score will be the highest of all their bots. You can select how many bots to play with in the Assault game mode settings; 32 is the max and can result in quite a lot of unintentional spawn-killing.

IMPORTANT: This mod requires [RDH]Zerted's UnOfficial v1.3 Patch, latest version found here: http://gametoast.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=14483

To play this mode simply select the stock Tantive IV map, select Galactic Civil War Era and Gun Game mode, and enjoy!

Installation Instructions:
copy GGM to your */Star Wars Battlefront II/GameData/addon folder (if it's not there, create it first)

To uninstall just remove GGM from your addon folder.

Bugs:
If a person set on fire with flamethrower gets a kill, the fire disappears.
Scores for all the players will be very inaccurate, with many more "deaths" than actually occured.
A few spawn points may be in/above objects.
Bots pause momentarily after getting a kill.
Bots tend to aggressively target human more than each other.

"making each weapon period last longer than 1 kill would be nice." <-- Mav Its central for gun game to have one kill then get a new weapon. That's how the modes work for those games and for this one.

"That's how it's been done" doesn't mean that it's the best idea. There's a good game mode here (regardless of what it's called or how it's been done), and I think that it would work better here with a little more time between switches of weapons.

@Glitch25, thank you!
@TWINKeYRUNAWAY, I am not sure why it does not work for you. One guess is that you could other mods installed in a separate folder accessible as "COMPATIBILITY FILES" which bring you over the limit. Seems unlikely though. If you have sides mods installed, they wouldn't show in the addon folder, maybe, but what sides mod would delete existing weapons? Any that did that would crash all stock maps. Finally, maybe a clean reinstall might do the trick? Though I understand that may be quite time consuming.
@Maveritchell, Thank you for the upload, review, and suggestiosn! My mentality at the time was that by having variants of the same weapon, i.e. CIS pistol, REP pistol, ALL pistol, IMP pistol, that you would get to experience each basic weapon for a while, with a few visual changes. One thing I have discovered is that in the multiplayer version of this mode that I'm working on, I cannot have more than 20 weapons, so I am going to have to cut down a lot. I am planning to divide the guns by era, and perhaps randomize them (CIS pistol one round, REP the next, etc.) This would naturally make the game a lot shorter than it is now, perhaps too short? Considering that, how many kills would you suggest each weapon last?

It worked for me then crashed but not before giving this a whirl. Very interesting game mode. I can see where mav was coming from though, it does seem that it might work a lot better if you killed more then one person to get a different gun. Though if you didn't change it, it is still a very engaging game mode. Thank you for your advice, I think ill have to re-install from steam. I know your question about how many kills was addressed to mav, but if I can give a small suggestion maybe 3-5 kills? It certianly would make the game longer.

My first thought would be 3-5 kills per weapon, but that's really on you - I'd test it to make sure that a decent match can last around 20-30 minutes. There are really two reasons I'd like to see the time with certain weapons extended: first, so that the match doesn't feel too short, and second, so that if I'm using a weapon I like, I get a chance to have fun with it for a bit. So keeping in mind the second reason, you may want to make it longer or shorter.

Of course that's just all my opinion, I urge you to play around with it, maybe distribute a test version out, and get some feedback from more people.

A question, Maveritchell you wanted to get more game time with the weapons you like, and TWINKEYRUNAWAY, you felt the game was too short: Did you guys win decisively in your rounds? Personally I felt like the bots kept pace with me only until around weapon 6-10 or so, and then they'd lag and only get to around weapon 20 by the time I've won. Maybe a useful balancing mechanism would be to make the better weapons last longer - requiring more kills than the weaker ones. It's vastly easier to get 5 kills with a rifle than get 5 kills with a pistol. This would both make the game last longer and presumably allow you to get more time with the weapons you like, unless of course one of them is the starting pistol.

I'll leave a more in-depth post at GT for you. I think what you've described above is a reasonable compromise.
