"Independent Source: Bespin," by Fingerfood, is a study of contrasts. On the one hand, it's a really well-done map - and I use this as literally as possible - but on the other hand, it's very unstable and lacking in the gameplay department.

But first, the good. As mentioned above, the map itself is pretty good. It is, by far, the most detailed Bespin map there is (and by the same token, the largest). It's a little mix of Platforms and Cloud City, although it's nothing so humdrum as simply putting the two maps side-by-side. The objects themselves are placed well and used effectively to create the feeling of a single, large, unified environment (although there were a couple alleys that looked pretty sketchy, and I don't mean in the urban sense).

Unfortunately, to the expense of everything good about the map, there are the abovementioned negatives.

As with any large map, it's very tricky to get gameplay that really works, and works well. To be blunt, it doesn't, here. It looks (or feels) like just the standard amount of units on a map easily two times bigger than that unitcount would require. This makes for a lot of running around looking for enemies or command posts, and despite the fact that a good job has been done on the scenery you're running through, this is still pretty boring.

And of course there are some serious stability issues. I can't say what causes them, but I had at least one CTD and a frozen game while trying to test this out. There's nothing fun about that. I know that this map represents an incomplete project, so take that for what it's worth - but the crashing issues are still there.

Anyway, I'd say it's a good example of what to shoot for in terms of scenery detail, but a bad example for level of polish. Give it a try if you like.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

The Battle of Hoth was a crushing blow to the Rebel Alliance, taking many of their resources. Pilot Han Solo has friends on the planet of Bespin that may be able to aid the Rebellion as they nurse their wounds. The Fleet travels to Bespin, not knowing the trouble they're in...




Download the IS_#1_Bespin.zip
Extract it to your C: (or whatever your drive name is) Program FilesLucasArtsStar Wars Battlefront IIGameDataaddon folder
If you don't have an addon folder make one.
Now go run SWBF2 and Enjoy!

Now, let me begin by saying this is far from perfect, and as said in the review, there are bugs. I just wanted to wrap this up and move on, and I think I wrapped it up in an alright fashion. I started the series thinking I'd be modding SWBF2 for much longer, but it turns out I wasn't, and thus the project may be continued by someone else.

This map took quite a while to complete, not including the humongous amount of time it took to resume work and wrap this up. But I finally did, and this is the product.

For those who are aiming for something like this, by all means take Maveritchell's positive feedback about this map the detail and such, and implement this concept into your own maps. It seemed I got the actual world done before I started on other elements, (sides, scripting, etc.) and put all my effort into the world. I am proud of how the world came out, and would love to see more maps of this quality. Use the resources. I vaguely remember using around 600 objects to construct the world. Yes, it may seem daunting to have to construct a world this complex from scratch, but look how it turns out. I remember I started with a single Bespin platform, and look what it became.

True, there are stability issues, but I'm 90% sure the primary mode, GCW Conquest, is stable and for the most part bug free.

Please don't judge the map solely by screenshots - the ones shown here are partially outdated and, in my opinion, don't rightly showcase the map. I'd highly suggest trying out the map if you're a learner or mediocre in map making and want to see a well-designed and put together world.

And thanks again Maveritchell for taking the time out of your day to upload this and write a kind (and very true) review.

I was contemplating this for quite a while, and based on those who like to RPG, I decided to leave the unit count default so units could be turned off. I was going to create a mode with more units on the field, but I rushed this out and didn't take the time to.

This map would be great for RPGing, as a matter of fact.big grin
