| Naboo: Riverside Village (1.0) - File Description |
 |
Description:
Pros: decent gameplay, simple but effective design, good for a first map
Cons : bland visuals, lack of cover, a few gameplay bugs
Naboo: Riverside Village is FighterRex's modding debut. It's a fairly even battle centering on a river between some rolling hills (CIS/Alliance controlled) and a village (Republic/Empire controlled).
As first maps go its pretty good, and avoids several of the pitfalls of first maps. The gameplay is not spectacular but decent enough, without many (if any) running into walls bugs, and the lack of cover in the hills area somewhat made up for by the ruggedness of the hills. Gameplay isn't completely bug-free however - players can't spawn at the river CP, although the inclusion of tanks and speeders for transports prevents battle being focused solely on the river, and there don't appear to be any control zones, resulting in vehicles (especially the single gunship/fighter, which the AI never use) decaying quickly if left alone.
Visually, the map is quite bland. The terrain sculpting and texturing is pretty good, although a different grass texture would have been nice. Where it falls down is the lack of props and foliage. Grass on the hills, rocks and/or reeds in the river, crates around the CPs.... all these things would improve the look of the map dramatically. Adding some more props to the village would have helped too. Another problem is the default view distance - its very low, with the reslt that buildings fade out at short range (this can be fixed by playing with settings in the NRV.sky file). While the map works, the lack of extra visuals makes it seem a bit too much like a map rather than an actual place.
All in all, its a decent first map and I'll be interested in any future developments to it. Download if it the review or the screens appeal.

by FighterRex
Hey everyone! So this is my first map and it features:
-Changed sky/textures/terrain/CP's
-Tanks and speeders for each side
-Republic Gunship and Tie fighter for the corresponding eras
-Long, flowing river that's perfect for a firefight
-Non-stock heroes
So here's the story:
Clone Wars: CIS forces surge forward in an attempt to capture the village. If they do, they will use
it as a staging point to attack the capital city of Theed. The Republic's 501st legion must hold their
ground at all costs if they are to stop the droid forces from destabilizing the Naboo government.
Galactic Civil War:
After taking control of Naboo in the early years of the empire, large numbers of rebel forces were
constantly trying to retake the planet. Now, a large force of rebel troops has landed to retake the
planet one city at a time. If they retake this village, they will be able to use the supplies and
ammunitions from it to fuel their campaign.
Installation instructions:

FighterRex From: (Wisconsin) Joined: March 10th, 2009 Posts: 170 | @Sky Thanks for the tips. I'm trying to fix those things, and I'm searching GameToast for some good object assets. I'm also working on foliage in ZE.
If anyone else has any other tips, I'd appreciate it. |

FighterRex From: (Wisconsin) Joined: March 10th, 2009 Posts: 170 | Thanks for downloading my map people, and thanks JasonBall. The computer containing all of the necesary files for this well, overheated and the processor and hard drive got literally fried. I've thought about creating a map focused on Felucia or Xagobah with a huge ravine splitting the opposing teams, with one or two paths across it. If I REALLY have some time, I'll recreate this map, but to be honest I'd like to move on. It was a good first map for me to get used to modding, but I'd like to start working on something else. Thanks everyone, though! |
