This mod, by Ty294, is a full sides mod for the GCW sides in SWBF. Well, full-ish, since the Rebel sides seem to stay largely the same.

It's a decent enough sides mod, although I was almost immediately put off upon installation when the readme instructed me to back up the full _LVL_PC folder. That's more than 2 GB - and for a simple sides mod? That seems crazy.

The sides are based on a short blurb included in the readme, and since there's no story wrapper given in the game, they feel like they have no context. I see names given to the sides, but all I see when I get in-game is one set of Rebels fighting a slightly different set of Rebels. This presents a twofold problem - one, it doesn't really feel like Star Wars, but more importantly, and two, it's hard to tell who is who. Because the HUD in SWBF1 is so subdued and not as easily intuitive (at least to me) as SWBF2, I'm basically working on visual cues to tell who I should and should not shoot. Those visual cues are sorely missing here.

The weapons are fine in here, although nothing really out-of-the ordinary. The Rebels' Wookiee is replaced by a Bothan Spy who has a grappling hook and a disguise kit, which works all too well in this game. It's basically a cheat button. A few units have a gun that shoots very strange blaster bolts - strange in that the bolts travel incredibly slowly.

Anyway, there's certainly a lot of stuff in here, if the screenshots are any indication. I definitely didn't take the time to try it all, so feel free to give it a download, try it for yourself, and let the author know what you think. Enjoy!

	Readme File: Description: This mod replaces the Galactic Civil War era with the Sinyan War era. I've changed just about everything, from icons to music. The Sinyan war is intended to be a brief war between my creation, the "Republic of Sinya" and the New Republic in the early years after the death of Palpatine and the fall of Coruscant. Story: As the New Republic continued to grow in the wake of the capture of Coruscant, they found that the Republic of Sinya, a small independent government in the mid-rim, remained a hold-out from joining Republic. The Sinyans had a long-standing treaty with the Empire, and still held trade relations with the Imperial Remnant. After several offers to assimilate into the Republic were rejected by the Sinyans, New Republic leaders decided they'd have to take the tiny empire by force, rather than risk it continuing to supply the Remnant with weapons, or worse, have the Remnant break their treaty and conquer the ROS themselves. So, after covertly using hired pirates and mercenaries to sabotage the ROS freight convoys for several months, the New Republic officially invaded the Republic of Sinya in an effort to claim it by military might. After some initial success, the New Republic realized just why the Sinyans had remained independent for so long, as ROS forces turned the tide and drove the invaders back. This was followed by a bold invasion of New Republic space by the Sinyans themselves. The New Republic, still bogged down in a war with the Empire, now found themselves facing enemies on two fronts... Installation: Backup the contents of "C:Program FilesLucasArtsStar Wars BattlefrontGameDataData_LVL_PC" and override them with my new files. Anything by Ty294 is usually gold.
This mod sums up all the stuff he has applied in past mods and then some.
It's not JUST a side mod either, there's edits to the sky, the maps and other such things which could not be edited through JUST the side.lvl

Sure there are some things I've seen before in multiple SWBF mods, but it's good all the same to compile them in this way... It's always nice to have some tasteful skins too of which there are plenty.

Oh and playing the mod a little longer than 5 minutes will probably assist with anybody's inability to recognise the enemy.

Different strokes, fella. "Gold" is relative, and it's clear you and I have different standards. There's nothing wrong with that.

And you do me a disservice if you think I spend five minutes on a mod before I write a review of it.
