Description:
This is a beta release of the Battlefront II mod tools. This release of the tools should give you everything you need to make mods for Star Wars Battlefront II, including the original assets that were used to make the game (minus sounds, and movies, which we could not release due to file size and licensing issues).

You must have Star Wars Battlefront II version installed BEFORE running the Mod Tools. It is also highly recommended that you install this to the default directory as other directory names could cause potential conflicts when building maps.
For more information about the usage of this mod kit, see the EULA included in this mod tools release.

Getting Started.doc
- A step by step guide on how to go about starting your first Battlefront II mod. Start here when making a new mod for Battlefront II, this will guide you through the basics.
Getting Started-Space notes.doc
- An addendum to the Getting Started Guide which goes over some important issues pertaining to making a new mod including Space content.
animation_guide.doc
- Details the process of creating, and exporting animations

- Details the process of creating, and exporting art assets from XSI

the tools work like the regular swbf 1 mod tools... odf's can be created in notepad, msh's in something called xsi, and tga's are photoshop...
and btw stop asking questions like "can you skin?" and "how do you make odf's?" If the answers were plainly answered in teh swbf 1 mod tools... The swbf 2 mod tools are just a suped-up version of the swbf 1 mod tools (the new zeroeditor is sweet). and I think the pandemic people had fun writing the documents *looks at "Creating a BF2 Jedi.doc"* |

Here are some frequently asked questions that, if you would take just a LITTLE BIT of initiative to look into you would have found the answer.
Q: lolomg du u need ptch 4 dis?
A: Check the readme. Check the patch readme. Check any news post involving either. YES. Idjut.
Q: wil sum1 tech me i dono how 2 do it
A: Check the documentation. There's a full folder of it and it tells you every step in making ODFs and all that other good stuff. Don't say it isn't there. You're just incompetent.
Q: How make work?
A: In the data>_build folder there is a modtoolsvisualmunge.exe. Run that and create your map folder. Copy and paste whatever assets you'lll need into it and run zeroedit(already in the mod folder). Upper left corner click load and find your modfolder>worlds>mod>world1 folder.
From there on it's all in the documentation. Stop asking for help here.
And Dave, that was yer last chance. If anyone cusses now I am going to ruin the posts. I'm not even going to just edit out the problem areas. It won't resemble the original in the slightest.
And don't say you didn't see the thread. I know for a fact you go on the forums.

Problem is, the only way I can get it to compile the rep.lvl file with my modifications, is to include all the odf, msh, and req files that they give you in the rep folder in the sides folder of my map, and when I do that and munge with the map editor and then take the new rep.lvl file out of my map folder to use as a stand alone mod, it is 10 MB smaller than the original and does not work. I have patched to 1.1, and I am really tired of hex editing, so, anybody here know how to help? |

Since there are so many side variants it will take a lot longer to edit stuff appropriately and it may not work like the ones for the first game did.

 , Ok i am calm now , i just downloaded this (or started to) and went downstairs for mt breakfast, i came back up and it the download had frozen at, 1 minute and 49 seconds.!!!!!!!!
So unfair i have to do it all over again.
I was going to try out smoe new skins i got from Gametoast that are: 212th Attack Battalion, 41st Elite Corps, and Shocktroopers.
Oh well. |

elite_trooper From: (Phazon Mines, Tallon IV) Joined: April 11th, 2006 Posts: 144 | for Urcain: the modtools.exe is a mini version of BF2, and you put it in C:/Program Files/LucasArts/Star Wars Battlefront ll/Gamedata. To make a map, you go to the BF2_Modtools folder and go to data. Then look for a _BUILD folder and go there, you'll see a program called ModTools VisualMunge. Run that and create your world. Go back to the BF2_Modtools folder and look for a ***_data folder (*** means three whatever letter word for your world), and then you go to zeroeditor.
for LordJuho: lol this one is easy. just put the CD 1 in, but once the launcher comes up, just exit it. |

SBFDannBoeing From: Joined: September 5th, 2005 Posts: 245 | First of all, modding is very hard to learn. And it can be very frustrating at times when the mod tools don't cooperate the way you want them to
Also, For a first map don't try to edit sides (the units, vehicles, weapons, etc) yet. Just work on designing a map in zero edit playing with the height, texture, and object tools. If you need help go to the forum on http://gametoast.com this is very good place to go for mod help, esp if you are just learning.
After a while you'll start to get a handle on zeroedit work and you can edit the map's LUA's in the common/scripts/*** (*** is ur 3-letter map code) in order to edit the units or vehicles used in the map.
Once you become more experianced you can start looking into how to edit sides (the actual units, vehicles, and weapons and their textures aka skins).
Anyway I highly recommend not to mod unless your willing to go through all the trouble and work of learning how. |
