Description:
This is a beta release of the Battlefront II mod tools. This release of the tools should give you everything you need to make mods for Star Wars Battlefront II, including the original assets that were used to make the game (minus sounds, and movies, which we could not release due to file size and licensing issues).

Readme File:
Disclaimer: This is released "as-is" and the Product Support group will be unable to answer any questions about these tools. You must have Star Wars Battlefront II version installed BEFORE running the Mod Tools. It is also highly recommended that you install this to the default directory as other directory names could cause potential conflicts when building maps.

For more information about the usage of this mod kit, see the EULA included in this mod tools release.

Documentation
Getting Started.doc
- A step by step guide on how to go about starting your first Battlefront II mod. Start here when making a new mod for Battlefront II, this will guide you through the basics.

Getting Started-Space notes.doc
- An addendum to the Getting Started Guide which goes over some important issues pertaining to making a new mod including Space content.

animation_guide.doc
- Details the process of creating, and exporting animations

art_guide.doc
- Details the process of creating, and exporting art assets from XSI

Battlefront2_scripting_system.doc
- A technical document listing all of the LUA script commands, and call backs available for use in Battlefront II

Battlefront II Mission LUA Guide.doc
- Breaks down the mission scripts from Battlefront II line by line, explaining what each line does

i wont download this. i think that expireinced modders ( from bf1 or other game) sould only dl. to them it doesent matter how long it takes to dl. if you really want to learn how to mod just wait for a guide to come out. i wonder who will make the first modstick out tongue

To all of you that get an error: Open the mod tools from the start menu. If you didn't create a start menu path to it... reinstall... hope my advice helps.

the tools work like the regular swbf 1 mod tools... odf's can be created in notepad, msh's in something called xsi, and tga's are photoshop...

and btw stop asking questions like "can you skin?" and "how do you make odf's?" If the answers were plainly answered in teh swbf 1 mod tools... The swbf 2 mod tools are just a suped-up version of the swbf 1 mod tools (the new zeroeditor is sweet). and I think the pandemic people had fun writing the documents *looks at "Creating a BF2 Jedi.doc"*

i agree. there's no need to get offensive just because i never owned BF1 is there. how an i suspost to know how those mod tools work? and i think that is i'm to stupid to work out how do do anything and/or my zeroeditor doesn't work (i'm not shure which one it is for me), don't blame me.

I have to agree with Delta. n00bs. All of you.
Here are some frequently asked questions that, if you would take just a LITTLE BIT of initiative to look into you would have found the answer.

Q: lolomg du u need ptch 4 dis?
A: Check the readme. Check the patch readme. Check any news post involving either. YES. Idjut.

Q: wil sum1 tech me i dono how 2 do it
A: Check the documentation. There's a full folder of it and it tells you every step in making ODFs and all that other good stuff. Don't say it isn't there. You're just incompetent.

Q: How make work?
A: In the data>_build folder there is a modtoolsvisualmunge.exe. Run that and create your map folder. Copy and paste whatever assets you'lll need into it and run zeroedit(already in the mod folder). Upper left corner click load and find your modfolder>worlds>mod>world1 folder.

From there on it's all in the documentation. Stop asking for help here.
And Dave, that was yer last chance. If anyone cusses now I am going to ruin the posts. I'm not even going to just edit out the problem areas. It won't resemble the original in the slightest.

And don't say you didn't see the thread. I know for a fact you go on the forums.

The only way you can import BF1 mods into BF2 and have them fully work, you have to be the modder themself. Like, the only person that can get Coruscant totally working in BF2 is Rends, the creator. In other words, only the mapper themself can do it properly.

When I start the mod tools, a box pops up that says :

"The application failed to start because binkw32.dll was not found."

The mod tools wont start. Does anyone else have the same problem?

Well whilst everything runs fine for me, I think this modder will let more experienced people do the work. It would take me far to long to create anything even remotely ressembling anything playable. However, if anyone can end up converting models for it, then I'll quite happily attempt to make a few (always wanted to see the Bwing in this game).

I really don't like making maps, but I downloaded this anyway becuase it has all the odf files I need to edit anything I would normally edit in XVI32. Problem is, the only way I can get it to compile the rep.lvl file with my modifications, is to include all the odf, msh, and req files that they give you in the rep folder in the sides folder of my map, and when I do that and munge with the map editor and then take the new rep.lvl file out of my map folder to use as a stand alone mod, it is 10 MB smaller than the original and does not work. I have patched to 1.1, and I am really tired of hex editing, so, anybody here know how to help?

Sometimes sides don't include every file(e.g. most side mods for swbf1 empire was missing probe droid odf and so it would crash). Since there are so many side variants it will take a lot longer to edit stuff appropriately and it may not work like the ones for the first game did.

I've ben too busy mapping for jedi Academy so i haven't had much time to look into these...

Someone really should make a space map pr two with expanded interiors on the Capital ships. I made a standard space map and saw that there was a rediculous amount of room for more space inside a Star Destroyer, Mon Cal cruiser, etc., but I'm afraid I have not the slightest idea of how to even make the most basic changes, as the closest thing I have done to making a custom map for a program is a Galactic Battlegrounds scenario.

How do you export the dno to the bcy using rnc without the dwb? The ynw is really obstructing the byt with the snx.

come on people put some maps up on file front. i havent seen a new file in a while. mabye every1 is workin on their new crap and then BOOM on one day 500 maps and mods come out. anyway gametoast has 5 or 6 maps already out (most are betas).

So unfair i have to do it all over again.
I was going to try out smoe new skins i got from Gametoast that are: 212th Attack Battalion, 41st Elite Corps, and Shocktroopers.
Oh well.

dude #81 u do not run bf2mod tools .exe u run visual munge.exe then edit it using zero editor (check the documents that come with it for more help k?)

This is BS..there is hardly any documentation besides LUA scripting for zeroeditor. The only thing it says is how to create a level folder. Not only is this a messed up editor, it has no real readme.

If the program asks for binkw32.dll go to your Program Files/Lucas Arts/BF2/Gamedata folder and copy the version of it in there to the mod folder. Other versions wont work.

When the download gets stuck at a number, just leave it alone, no matter how long it takes, it will keep downloading. I know, my download froze at 51% but it kept going after 30 minutes.

mines fine everything works i just dont kno how to get objects and shi.. crap to work do i have to animate them or download them and find them on there cuase when i make a level it gives me a 4 based level and all i can do is color change hiegth and make nithnodes or whatever they are but even when i save after making it elevated the saved changes dont even show up on map when i play what happen to the easy way where u find the object drag it make a CP and drag a spawnpoint like what battlefield 1942 and all there games do its a bunch of crap..confusedconfusedconfused

if anyone is going to get this i garrenty itll either not work or u wont understand it i made a level but i cant get any objects all i can do is make a hill and it doesnt even show up when i tested map it doesnt do anything good its a waste of space in ur computers harddrive so unless theres easier one where u can normally just take item and move it on the map and customize the map instead of creating a whole matrix cuase aparantly thats what it tellin me to do so dont get this its got wayyy to many problems and its to difficult even the genious richest guy in world bill gates wouldnt understand that crap the manual/ documentaion is also BS my head was pounding after reading that so just some personal advice if u need any more il be downloading normal things.

hi, im completely new to modding, just like pretty much every one else here. also, even after i replaced the DLL file, and the error message went away, is STILL wont work. an empty window flashes on the screen for about a half a second, then it disepaers, and nothing happens. sorry to present another question, but i really need help.

for Urcain: the modtools.exe is a mini version of BF2, and you put it in C:/Program Files/LucasArts/Star Wars Battlefront ll/Gamedata. To make a map, you go to the BF2_Modtools folder and go to data. Then look for a _BUILD folder and go there, you'll see a program called ModTools VisualMunge. Run that and create your world. Go back to the BF2_Modtools folder and look for a ***_data folder (*** means three whatever letter word for your world), and then you go to zeroeditor.

for LordJuho: lol this one is easy. just put the CD 1 in, but once the launcher comes up, just exit it.

If you are getting an error report when you place an object, you probably forgot to put the .msh file in the .msh folder.

First of all, modding is very hard to learn. And it can be very frustrating at times when the mod tools don't cooperate the way you want them to

Also, For a first map don't try to edit sides (the units, vehicles, weapons, etc) yet. Just work on designing a map in zero edit playing with the height, texture, and object tools. If you need help go to the forum on http://gametoast.com this is very good place to go for mod help, esp if you are just learning.

After a while you'll start to get a handle on zeroedit work and you can edit the map's LUA's in the common/scripts/*** (*** is ur 3-letter map code) in order to edit the units or vehicles used in the map.

Once you become more experianced you can start looking into how to edit sides (the actual units, vehicles, and weapons and their textures aka skins).

Anyway I highly recommend not to mod unless your willing to go through all the trouble and work of learning how.

i downloaded it 8 hours !!!!! and now in the evening it says: couldnt open the file , it has unknown size or is demaged Aaargh!!!

wow! amazing what you can do if you actually try. i figured out everything i need to know about it and am on my way to making maps. Rock can anyone tell me how to test them though. i downloaded the 2.1 patch and everytime i try to run SWBF2 it loads then brings me back to the desktop! confused
